Supported Concert Experiences

Sharing in the Groove creates welcoming, predictable, and joyful live music experiences for adults 18+ with autism and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We work with participants and their Support People before and during each concert to understand individual needs, prepare for the experience, and provide practical support throughout the night. Our current concert opportunities are primarily in and around Denver, Colorado, with plans to grow into additional venues and communities.

What to Expect

  • Advance planning and a pre-show meet-up with participants and Support People

  • Day-of meet-up and check-in before the show

  • Coordinated entry, orientation, and seating or standing plans

  • Sensory tools and ear protection options available as needed

  • Wayfinding, break plans, and step-away support in partnership with participants, Support People, and venue staff

  • A clear exit and regroup plan when needed

  • Post-event check-in and an opportunity to share feedback

We use a prevention-first, dignity-centered approach built around preparation, participant choice, and early support. If a safety concern arises, we coordinate with the participant, Support Person, and venue staff to determine the appropriate next step.

Sharing in the Groove does not provide transportation to or from events, personal care such as toileting, feeding, or hygiene, or clinical or medical services such as medication administration.

Our Approach

Our work is designed to:

  • Create meaningful opportunities for adults with disabilities to experience live music

  • Provide individualized preparation and support before and during concerts

  • Make concert experiences more predictable without taking away the spontaneity and joy of live music

  • Partner with venues to reduce common barriers related to entry, crowds, sensory needs, wayfinding, breaks, and exits

  • Build a practical model that can grow across venues and communities

Partnerships

Venue partners work with Sharing in the Groove to plan for each concert experience, including entry procedures, seating or standing options, step-away spaces, accessibility considerations, and event-night coordination.

Community partners help us connect with potential participants and Support People, share expertise and feedback, and strengthen our ability to create experiences that reflect the needs of the communities we serve.
